Beach Week- Kill Devil Hills

We just got back from a week long vacation at Kill Devil Hills with the girls. What a fun time we had at the beach! Jeremy's company just started managing Bermuda Bay, a beautiful resort in the area check out the website to see more pictures of the facility- www.cambridgecoveobx.com. We traveled down to the area and stayed with my cousin Joey, his wife Lara and their little one year old daughter Megan. I knew that going to the beach this year would be much different with two little ones. Long gone are the days of waking up late, heading to the beach and casually relaxing by the ocean until dinnertime. Not only would we have twice as much to pack, but with two little ones who require a napping schedule for their sanity, as well as mine; anything is possible. After arriving the first evening we unpacked, went grocery shopping, fed the girls dinner and then put everyone down to sleep. Luckily for us, Megan's bedtime routine was pretty much in sync with the girls and everyone was in bed by 7:30pm. After bedtime most nights we would grill burgers, soft shell crab and shrimp and play cards. We stayed in separate condos next to each other, so we were lucky that our baby monitors could be heard from each other's units and well as outdoors; especially at night when we were grilling outside and hanging out on the decks. Joey and Lara were even nice enough to let us go out on a date one evening as they stayed home and made sure that the girls didn't wake up.

On Monday we ventured out to the water park located at the resort. The girls loved it! They played for hours in the pool, crawling around through the sprinklers, and climbing on the water squirting animals.
Tuesday we ventured out to the beach for the first time. Kennedy loved the ocean! Jeremy had to literally hold her back or else she would have charged for the water. Even with the waves breaking on her getting her wet she just laughed the whole time.

Ashlyn did not enjoy the the trip to the actual ocean as much. Every time we tried to put her down to touch the sand or water she would lift up her legs and hang onto you tight. She is definitely more timid than her sister. Even when we sat her down on the beach towel and gave her a shovel she cried and wanted nothing to do with it. The picture below is one that I took as she was grasping onto my leg as we watched Jeremy and Kennedy enjoying the waves. She has such a pitiful look on her face, as if she is thinking "Please Mommy, no more beach!"

Overall, it was a very relaxing enjoyable vacation. We did get some rain during the week, but that allowed us to go out to breakfast and go shopping! The girls had a lot of "firsts" this week. First time to the beach, Kennedy walking, taking a bike ride, Ashlyn starting to shake her head "no" to everything (ha ha... that will have to be another post with a video), just to name a few. We are looking forward to going back again soon!
