Thanksgiving

On Thursday morning we headed to Lynchburg to visit my Dad's (Pop) side of the family. It was actually a very pleasant drive. Not only did we get there (via a new route) in 30 minutes less than normal, but the girls did not whine or fuss at all the whole time. On this trip we borrowed a friend's portable dual DVD player. What a lifesaver that was! The girls were very content watching The Wiggles and Baby Einstein videos when they were not napping. I don't think they even realized that we were making them sit in their car seats for 3 and a half hours. Needless to say it was the first thing that we will make sure that we pack on those long car rides in the future, since we now have our own! After arriving at Pop's house we ate dinner with the family and the girls did most of the entertaining for the evening. Everyone loved watching them walk around and explore and play together. They found many hiding spots underneath tables and chairs and found Pop's loot of fake food.

Here are the girls with Big Pop (my grandad) putting the fruit back into the plate. The girls also loved Pop's stash of golf balls. Of course out of the whole bunch there was only one pink one, and both Kennedy and Ashlyn fought over it. I guess all little girls love pink. Pop bought Kennedy and Ashlyn their own Gingerbread man for dessert. I think that they were pretty full from a huge Thanksgiving dinner, but tried it anyways. Kennedy seems to like sweets more than Ashlyn and chewed on the cookie for a while. By the end of the night she looked like a little Gingerbread lady covered with icing and cookie crumbs. Yummy!
The next morning we woke up and enjoyed a lazy day at home. It was nice outside so the girls got to play outside in Dad's yard, pet "Precious", go for a ride on their tricycle, and also got to ride on Dad's 4 wheeler and explore his backyard. Whew, what an afternoon. The tricycle is one that our next door neighbors gave to us as a hand-me-down. Once the girls get older and taller I am sure that they will both get their own. But for now, using this one entertains them. For the most part, one will sit on the seat and will "ride" around as she is being pushed. We got them to share the toy and taught them how one could ride on the back and hold on to whoever is driving. It worked sometimes, but often whoever was in the seat didn't like sharing her turn. Thus, you can tell Ashlyn looks a little annoyed that Kennedy is moving in on her space. Sharing is a continuous process of learning in the Grogg home.
Pop has a doggie statue sitting by his door. The girls loved to go up to it and kiss it. When Ashlyn "kisses" she leans her forehead in and touches you so that you can give her a kiss. You can see that she is letting the doggie give her a big wet one. Ha, too cute! She and Kennedy would even go up to the statue and try to pet it thinking it was real.

Overall, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We visited with family, relaxed and even got to see Four Christmases- which was a great movie! Thanks Kara for watching the girls that night so we could get out. I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and enjoy the next couple weeks madness as we head towards the end of the year.
