Saturday morning after our weekly swim classes at the YMCA, we drove up to Harrisonburg to visit Jeremy's family. We met Grandma McIntyre that afternoon after lunch and spent some time at Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton. There was an arts and craft festival at the park and a lot of people walking their dogs around enjoying the nice weather. Kennedy and Ashlyn of course had to stop and meet all of the dogs that were out there. They love animals, especially dogs and beg to pet and kiss everyone that they see.
At the park there was a mini train that we rode with the girls. They didn't seem to have too much of a reaction good or bad to it. But, they did sit still and behaved on the ride and enjoyed looking at the scenery.
After spending the afternoon with Grandma McIntyre, we headed up to Natural Chimney campground where Grandpa/Grandma Grogg and family were camping in their RV over the weekend. The girls had a blast running outside everywhere, loving on Snowball- Uncle Chris' dog, and of course enjoying all of the chips and sodas that Grandpa Grogg would give them! I think that the sugar and salty treats were what made their weekend. The have been spoiled when they visit because they know how to get such treats from him! Just to make a note, whenever I pull out a soda can at home now the girls beg for a taste... thanks Grandpa! I have pour it into a glass before they see the can in order for me to enjoy the soda without sharing it with the little moochers.
Sunday morning we visited Great Grandma Miller at Sunnyside. The girls entertained everyone there by running up and down the empty hallways and finding all of the stuffed animals that Grandma Miller had in her room. They even found an outdoor garden statue of a raccoon that they took a liking to calling it "Ki Kat" (as Ashlyn calls a kitty cat, they don't know what a raccoon looks like, to them the statue is a cat) and they would hug and pet it as if it were real. At the end of the visit Grandma Miller was kind enough to give it to them to take home. It is now sitting in our front garden and the girls will run up to it when we leave to go out in the morning and give it hugs and kisses and say "Bye Bye" as we leave for the day.
We ended the holiday weekend at Shenandoah Speedway. Jeremy has switched racing series in an effort to prepare for a hopeful late model stock car ride (the ones like you see in NASCAR) in the 2010 season. He began this new series Memorial Day in the #26 Bridgewater Car Care UCAR Ford at Shenandoah Speedway with Ashlyn and Kennedy in the grandstands (Ashlyn pointed and said DaDa everytime Jeremy came around). He finished 8th competing with some of the better cars in the state (Jeremy's brother Chris finished one position ahead in 7th). He plans on racing this car along with several races in the #83 Grand Stock Chevy Monte Carlo. This is one level below the late model series. I am pleased with this as I will hopefully get my garage space back because these cars are not kept at the house.
Below are just some photos of the girls in there "Star and Stripes" outfits that I made for them to wear this summer for the holidays. Kennedy is playing with one of the cars that Jeremy bought them to push around the house and Ashlyn is writing on her Magna Doodle. We are pretty sure that Kennedy is going to be left handed and Ashlyn will be right handed. They are using silverware pretty regularly and each prefer to use their hand of choice.
