Strawberry Shortcakes
We visited Woods Orchard in Hampton on Sunday and picked strawberries, what a fun day! The orchard is located off of Mercury Blvd behind the farmers market. We rode on a hayride to get to the strawberry patch and once we arrived the girls had a blast picking the fruit! We had to explain to them to only pick the bright red ones, no green ones. They actually did really good determining which ones they choose to pick. Ashlyn just loves strawberries, she will ask for them every morning for breakfast. When we told her we were going to pick them she was really excited. It was neat to show them how they grow in the ground. Kennedy has not fallen in love with the juicy fruits like Ashlyn has. I thought maybe after she picked a couple herself she would enjoy eating them more. Well, that wasn't the case. Kennedy loved picking them and throwing them into the bucket, but she still didn't like the taste of them, weird girl. She did enjoy feeding Ashlyn though.
Kennedy does not favor the taste of strawberries, here is a photo of her trying one. You would think that we were feeding her a lemon by the look on her face.
Ashlyn on the other hand LOVES strawberries and was so excited to pick the big juicy ones. We tried to explain to her to wait to eat them, but that is like handing a child a piece of candy and expecting them not to eat it.
After a while of picking strawberries, Ashlyn discovered that it was much easier for her just to sit and start to eat the ones that we had already gathered. We are not sure how many she actually ate (don't worry, we asked before if they were safe eaten straight from the vine) but her strawberry stained shirt was proof that she consumed quite a few. Since we were paying by the pound, we weren't sure if we should mention her "snack" when we went to pay or if they would just figure it out and charge us extra. Ha Ha! :-)
